Tell Me What to Write

This is a place for you to suggest topics for me to write about, books to review or people to interview. You can also vote for other people’s suggestions. When there is clear consensus behind an idea I will try to write about it (or find someone who can).

I intend to trial this process through the month of June.

I suggest you write about ...

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".
(thinking…)

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

If a similar idea already exists, you can vote and comment on it.

If it doesn't exist, you can post your idea so others can vote on it.

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

    • Plastic surgery. When it is/isn't OK.

This got me thinking about the topic: http://www.patheos.com/blogs/kathyschiffer/2012/09/bigger-breasts-and-smaller-noses-the-correction-continuum-is-plastic-surgery-immoral/
(I don't embrace the theology of that site.) I can imagine that you might make a connection between plastic surgery and plastic churches...not being contented with the Lord's ways.

      • Boy-girl relationship: the issue of being compatible over complement-ible

Hi I am a christian and my friend recently brought up this issue on whether a couple should get together largely on whether are they compatible. It got me too deep thoughts as I am not sure whether the bible ever spoke about being compatible. The idea of being complement is there but I have never read or came across the idea of biblical compatibility between couples.

        Shed a light??

        Thanks.

        Regards,
        Meng Kit

Tim, several years ago you posted on "The Church Bulletin Project." I never saw an update to that. I am interested, because we want to in prove our church Bulletin and figured you would have some good insight. Thanks so much.

            • how to explain to unbelievers where the Bible comes from, that it wasn't just written by men.

It would be helpful to know what to say, in an short, easy way. not to academic, but that will answer the question in a way that invites unbelievers to think, to consider what the Bible has to say.

              • grace vs. truth -

how does a one address an area of sin in someone's life without making them run away and hide from the topic, lose the friendship, relationship vs. saying nothing and praying through the issue for God to handle it. which to do when? And how to know when and how to address such matters in a sensitive way? are there any ground rules couples can set-up before hand to foster an attitude of open communication to ease discussion of difficult topics such as sin? p.s. love your blog pps. my 9 year old really enjoys some of the videos you…

                • Do missionaries destroy cultures?

After watching a movie called "the end of poverty" and reading a book in "Perspectives of the Christian movement". I'm wondering to what extent the Christian message is a global message and to what extent does it allow diversity in cultures around the world.

I think that many of our Christian movements are very business-minded. A certain style of worship at church becomes a brand (let's say Mars Hill Church, Hillsong and others) which we are trying to impose and force. In our secular society, diversity seems to be a very good thing, on biblical terms from the story of…

As a teenager, I made a series of bad decisions which, unlimately, landed me in prison to serve time for burglary. I finished my debt to society by successfully completing my parole in December 1992. I drifted in and out of churches, just never quite fitting in. I've been married now and have stayed committed to church attendance, and serving whenever the opportunity arises. God has made it very clear to me, on multiple occasions, that He wants to use my past for His glory. I've had some interesting reactions when I've shared my story. With some believers, I feel…

                                • Dealing with Biased "Positive Reviews"

I've been thinking about the fact that we tend to be very careful and considerate when planning to critique someone's work and not when planning to praise and commend their work. For example, we would often consider approaching the person in private before criticizing (negative) their work. But we do not do it when praising (positive) it. One of the reasons why we take such measures on a negative review includes the possibility that we could be wrong in our critiques. Of course there is also the biblical steps to be followed in correcting our brothers. I am just wondering,…
